2023-2024 Agriculture Youth Council Application

What is the Agriculture Youth Council and what does it do?

This council was created by the Secretary of Agriculture, Blayne Arthur, in order to provide future leaders of the agriculture industry an experience that cultivates professional development and broadens horizons while developing a potential workforce for Oklahoma. Council members will visit Oklahoma agricultural companies and organizations, learn about the legislative process and how it affects the agriculture industry, shadow industry professionals, and hone professional skills. Members will serve a one-year term on the council.

Our Goal:

To develop potential Oklahoma agriculture employees by teaching professional skills, exposing members to diverse agriculture operations and offering short-term job experience in agriculture fields.

What is the selection process?

The Agriculture Youth Council is chosen by a panel developed the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry. All applications are due by 5:00 pm on May 5. Late applications will not be considered. Applicants will be notified by May 12th if chosen for an interview. Interviews will be held via Zoom conference. The council will be selected based on the Zoom interviews.

Who is eligible to be a member of the Agriculture Youth Council and what is required?

High school seniors from all Oklahoma counties are eligible to apply. Membership in 4-H/FFA is NOT required. Travel to and from the State Capitol is required; however, travel to tours will be provided from the Capitol. If students are selected and fail to regularly attend meetings, tours, respond to GroupMe or emails, or be actively involved with the council, they will be dismissed.
